Table for Keith

A table designed to slide over a lounge chair. Minimalist, with a few hidden details.

Designed to fit over a chair and be just big enough for a small laptop or other device. The two legs have parabolic cutouts on the inside. When I was test-fitting the raw pieces of wood, Keith liked the slight angle the legs made, so I took that inspiration to angle the legs at approximately 7º. Perhaps silly, but the size was design to slide over a Poäng chair from Ikea. Though the height and width is relatively standard, so it's not tied to that chair. The pure lumber cost more than the original chair. Table, from above 3/4 view Table, from above 3/4 view again The legs are joined with octagonal through tenons. The octagons were a subtle nod to the way the angle of the angle of the legs on Japanese torii are calculated. There was a knot on the bottom. Rather than fill in with epoxy, I decided to try a small patch in a wildly different wood. Inspired in some ways by George Nakashima's use of butterflies like this as both a structural and design element.
